The park:
opening the gates on villa-buth.de

The villa’s parks and gardens are hidden behind the wall. They have been neglected for decades. Looking over the wall, all you can see is undergrowth.
But appearances can be misleading! On this page, the gates to the park open to everyone. The treasure that lies hidden on the foothills of Kirchberg's hill can be discovered here.

Park = forest?

If you follow the walk along the wall, you get the impression that the walled-in plot behind Villa Buth is completely overgrown. A patch of woodland, surrounded by high walls? At first glance, this seems unusual – and in fact, that wasn’t the intention! Originally, this plot of land – now wooded and overgrown – was designed as a park in keeping with the architecture of the villa. Even though, at first glance, there is no sign today of any structured park layout, the ideas behind it still lie dormant amongst the bramble thickets and piles of leaves. To understand the original concepts behind the park, we set out to search for clues on site and combine these with historical aerial photographs and maps.

Interaktive Karte

The pages on the park explore why the park is the way it is today, what traces of the past we can find there, and what characteristics the park possessed at different times. In particular, they examine the spatial design and development of the park. Take a journey through time across the park using the timeline!
